Water is a very precious commodity, essential to every living thing on Planet Earth. Water is extremely scarce in this area, which results in many
water borne illnesses. The lack of clean water is blamed for the death of many people, and even the livestock and wildlife who share the water supply.

There are a few man made water holes, which are filled with water during the rainy season, but because of the lack of toilets, human waste from the bushes gets washed into the water holes.

As the rainy season passes, the water level drops and the water supply becomes very muddy. Water stagnancy eventually causes algae and bacteria to grow, turning the water green. People continue to use this water and soon find themselves very ill. Many even die. Stagnant water also creates a breeding place for mosquitoes, which increases the risk for the spread of malaria.
